The concept of peace, harmony and sociability is the basic premise of the
organization "Physicians for Peace and Social Responsibility."
Republic of Macedonia, together with other countries in the region (former
Yugoslavian Republic) through the historical development has been through
the ups, but also through the numerous defeats that all of us inflicted
catastrophic consequences. All past wars have led to the division of people of
various ethnicities who had the price as intolerance or even free to say hatred
among people belonging to different ethnicities. This "division" is not only not
to be established, but should be condemned by all, especially the medical
afela. The aim of our association is just that, through social activities, doctors,
medical students and those for which this premise is a reality, along with our
colleagues from the region and around the world to prove that we are mature
enough and capable of developing a peace and social environment.
Association „Physicians for Peace and Social Responsibility“this concept
applies thanks to the organization "IPPNW" (International Physicians for the
Prevention of Nuclear War) and colleagues from Germany who ever since
1996 are hosts of the medical students from the countries, ex members of
Yugoslavia, as their guests who take part of a clinical professional activities,
but also a part of social inter-actions. The aim is through work and friendship
of future generation’s doctors to indicate what peace means, and mutual
tolerance for all of us, especially for us as doctors, all thanks to the entire
organization by the office of "IPPNW" in Berlin.
To describe the beginning of this activity will quote the distinguished Professor.
Dr. Ulrich Gottstein, who actually is the creator of this peaceful activity:
“During the inner-Yugoslavian wars, I as the Vice-President of IPPNW in
Europe was in Croatia, Serbia, Kosovo and Bosnia-Herzegovina a number of
times in1992 to 1994. At that time I was also in Sarajevo and East- Mostar
during the siege and bombardments. I had many talks with political decision
makers and physicians and took urgently needed medicines and food to the
hospitals and field-hospitals on both sides of the front, as well as to refugee
camps. In accordance with the constitution of the IPPNW, I tried to make a
contribution to ending the conflicts and starting negotiations.
On the basis of my reports for Medical Journals and the media, the Wuerzburg
IPPNW-group ( under the leadership of Dr. Wolfram Braun, Dr. Renate Geiser,
Dr. Joachim Gross and Dr. Bernd Koehler and his wife) in close cooperation
with the Wuerzburger Missionsaerztliche Klinik, invited ten medical students
from the different areas of “Yugoslavia” every year since 1996…”
Most members of the association "Physicians for Peace and Social
Responsibility" is part of that group, and that beautiful experience can now
convey to the younger fellow students in medicine, but also to expand this
successful tradition with new ideas and members that will act from
Macedonian soil.
Numerous activities of the association are described on a separate page (see
Activities), and some of them will be released soon.
Anyone who is found in our premises and wants to extend the idea of peace in
Macedonia around the world, and also ready to socialize with their colleagues
around the world is welcome in our association.
Sincerely,
"Physicians for Peace and Social Responsibility"
